ICCP - for researchers on children's play

Welcome to ICCP!

Founded in 1959, ICCP is a leading international research organisation for children's play.

ICCP was founded at a conference organised by "Spiel Gut", a German national organisation concerned with the quality of children's toys. Since then, regular conferences have been held with the aim of furthering research into children's play and toys.

In memoriam - Dr Jan van Gils (1950 -2026)

We are very sorry to learn of the death of Dr Jan van Gils (Belgium), a former ICCP President and a hugely respected and well-liked colleague of so many scholars and practitioners around the world. Jan founded the Belgian youth and research organisation 'Kind & Samenleving' and was also a leading light in several international organisations, including ICCP, International Play Association, European Network for Child Friendly Cities and Child in the City. Renowned for his shrewd intellect and his ever-present mischievous sense of humour, Jan generously supported anybody who shared his compassion for children and childhood, regardless of their experience or background. Jan also was a keen artist who particularly enjoyed painting landscape features and was frequently invited to exhibit his paintings.
